What can I buy?

You can buy the following from the Danish Geodata Agency

  • Paper charts in digital format
  • Historical charts
  • Permits to reproduction

Futhermore, you can enter into an agreement with the Danish Geodata Agency regarding license agreements, by whict you can obtain the possibility to use the Danish Geodata Agency's products in a commercial context. 

Paper charts are physical nautical charts that can be used for navigation. The individual sailor should continuously update paper charts in accordance with Chart Corrections to ensure the sailing safety. Chart corrections are published weekly.

Paper charts can be purchased through our distributor, Stibo Complete, at kobsokort.dk.

Paper charts in digital format are print files of paper charts in .tiff or .pdf format. It must be noted that all charts in digital format have not been updated since the chart’s publication date. Paper charts bought in digital format are not suitable for navigation.

Paper charts in digital format can be purchased by inquiry at soe_policy@gst.dk. The charts can be purchased in .pdf format or .tiff format. You can find an overview of Danish charts in our Product Catalogue (currently only available in Danish). You can advantageously refer to the chart number when you contact the Danish Geodata Agency regarding purchases.

No, a number of public authorities have the right to use the Danish Geodata Agency’s products for internal authority processing, as a result of previous funding via the annual Budget. You can read more about this here (currently only available in Danish).

The Danish Geodata Agency does not handle nautical charts to chart plotters. In contracts, third parties have purchased a license from the Danish Geodata Agency to use the Danish Geodata Agency’s data for developing and updating charts for the leisure market. You can read more about which dealers have entered into an agreement with the Danish Geodata Agency to handle nautical charts to charts plotters here.

You can find information about Danish harbours via Denmark Harbour Pilot (currently only available in Danish), and information about Greenlandic harbours via Greenland Harbour Pilot. Here, you can find harbour charts and aerial photographs of the Danish and Greenlandic marinas, commercial harbours and bridges for instance.

The Danish Geodata Agency does not handle geographical maps. You can find geographical maps at the Agency for Data Supply and Infrastructure. Furthermore, you can find oblique photos of properties in Denmark, including harbours, here.

Historical charts can be accessed on the following websites:

  • Historical charts on the web: https://historiskekort.dk/ (currently only available in Danish).
    This data base contains historical charts that can be freely searched.
  • The Danish National Archives: https://en.rigsarkivet.dk/: The Danish National Archives possesses the vast majority of historic charts that the Danish Geodata Agency also possesses. Here, however, they can only be searched online to a certain extent. The Danish National Archives also provides guidance if you have problems with their data base.

The Danish Geodata Agency also has a digital archive of historical charts. This archive can only be accessed by the agency.

You can contact the Danish Geodata Agency at soe_policy@gst.dk if you are looking for a specific chart or have questions. The Danish Geodata Agency charges a payment for the time it takes to sort through the archives.

Historical charts are not subject to payment, for which reason you don’t have to pay for the charts. If you need the Agency’s guidance to look for specific charts, the Danish Geodata Agency charges a payment per started hour. You can find our price list here (currently only available in Danish).

A permit to reproduction entails a limited reuse of the Danish Geodata Agency’s products and/or data in own products. As the Danish Geodata Agency has copyright to its products and data, reuse requires a separate permit.

Inquiries regarding the reproduction of the Danish Geodata Agency’s products and data may be addressed to soe_policy@gst.dk. You can read more about how you obtain a permit to reproduction here (currently only available in Danish).

The price for a permit to reproduction depends on a specific and individual assessment. You can read more about it on our price list here (currently only available in Danish).

Companies and private individuals can enter into a license agreement with the Danish Geodata Agency concerning the rights to rework the Danish Geodata Agency’s data into derivative products that the licensee oneself prepares and sells to consumers. The licensee subsequently settles royalties retroactively with payment to the Danish Geodata Agency. You can read more about license agreements here.

Public authorities do not have to pay for the Danish Geodata Agency’s nautical charts and data for internal authority processing, but only the processing time for the permit to reproduction, which is based on a specific and individual assessment. Please contact soe_policy@gst.dk if you, as a public authority, wish to reproduce the Danish Geodata Agency’s products and data. You can apply for permission to conduct hydrographic survey by contacting soeopmaalingstilladelser@gst.dk. In connection to this, please fill out and submit the application template, which applies to both Danish and foreign vessels. You can read more about permissions to hydrographic survey here.

The Danish Geodata Agency strives for a processing time of a maximum of 20 working days. Applications for permission to conduct hydrographic survey must be put out for consultation with external authorities, which is why cases cannot be processed faster. It is up to the applicant to ensure that the Danish Geodata Agency receives the application on time.

After the hydrographic survey is complete, please contact the Danish Geodata Agency at soeopmaalingstilladelser@gst.dk and provide your case number. You will then be guided through the procedure for submitting the data.

It is not necessary to apply for permission at the Danish Geodata Agency in connection with the surveying of harbours. After the survey is completed, you are encouraged to send the data to soeopmaalingstilladelser@gst.dk.

A permission to hydrographic surveying from the Danish Geodata Agency does not include geotechnical and/or geophysical seabed surveys. Instead, you should contact the Danish Energy Agency at ens@ens.dk if you wish to conduct geotechnical and/or geophysical seabed surveys.

Please send information about errors and omissions in or additions to nautical charts, nautical publications, and the website to the Danish Geodata Agency at soe@gst.dk.

Reports should be sent to the Danish Geodata Agency at soe@gst.dk. When an activity results in updates to official nautical charts, harbor plans, or descriptions in nautical publications, which are issued by the Danish Geodata Agency, the responsible party must submit information and drawing material to the Danish Geodata Agency no later than 3 weeks after the completion of an activity. Activities include any work or arrangement, except for normal navigation and fishing, that may impair navigation safety or free navigation, including projects, contractor work, and the like.
