Hydrographic surveying

Hydrographic surveying is one of the oldest forms of marine research, and comprises a process of collecting depth information that can be used in developing and maintaining nautical charts. In essence, a hydrographic survey collects depth, position and time data, which can be used to create a model of the seabed.

Nautical charts

The Danish Geodata Agency (Geodatastyrelsen) is Denmark's official producer of nautical charts of the waters surrounding Denmark and Greenland. We publish a number of nautical charts at various scales. These charts are the basis for planning and conducting safe seagoing voyages.

Marine Spatial Data Infrastructure (MSDI)

The opportunity to compare geographic data across authorities with an interest in and by the sea are vital to the authorities’ ability to plan and conduct such activities. MSDI stands for Marine Spatial Data Infrastructure.

Greenland waters

Navigation around Greenland is markedly different from sailing in non-Arctic waters.

Terms and prices

In Denmark, the Danish Geodata Agency has monopoly of producing charts of the waters around Denmark and Greenland. This means that the Danish Geodata Agency has the copyright of charts, which has been confirmed by judgement of the Danish Supreme Court of 6th of February 2014.

Chart corrections

Danish Chart Corrections "Søkortrettelser" is published online every Wednesday.

Denmark's Depth Model

Denmark’s Depth Model (DDM) is a depth-averaged digital bathymetric model, covering Denmark’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). The model has a grid resolution of 50 meters and is based on a collection of hydrographic survey datasets and other sources.

External funded projects

Danish Geodata Agency are participating in various external projects e.g. EU funded projects.
